Lies of P takes a lot of inspiration from other Soulslike games, and it’s evident that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was a massive motivation. Much of the combat revolves around blocking and parrying instead of rolling away and dodging attacks. Unfortunately, most fans of the Soulslike genre are accustomed to the latter, so they’ll find it difficult to perfectly guard in Lies of P. Here’s how to land a successful guard!
How to Perfectly Guard in Lies of P
Again, one of the most critical aspects of Lies of P isn’t the player’s ability to duck, dodge, and roll. It’s blocking. By successfully blocking in Lies of P, you will reduce the overall health damage you take, and when you strike back against an enemy, you regain some of the health lost in the process. It’s a fantastic system that rewards perfect timing and aggression in some regards.
But the key to landing a perfect guard is in the timing. Hit the block/guard button on your preferred setup just before the enemy attack reaches you. Once you do, you’ll receive confirmation with a burst of sparks, then an overzealous blocking chime.
Unfortunately, there is no cheat code to block incoming damage successfully. It’s all about timing and practice. The more you practice, the better you get. As the kids like to say, “git gud.”
However, one tip we can offer is to hover over the block/guard button during combat encounters. If you’re ready for the incoming attack, you’re more likely to time the block correctly. And remember, there are training dummies scattered about the game, especially at Hotel Krat, that make perfect practice.
