Nightmare Difficulty causes enemies to move faster and deal more damage while limiting rations and demanding perfect timing for parries.
The next big Title Update for Assassin’s Creed Shadows goes live on June 25th, 7 AM PT, and Ubisoft has finally revealed the patch notes. The second free story quest, “A Critical Encounter,” sees players meeting and recruiting Rufino, played by Critical Role’s Robbie Daymond.
After uncovering an organization that assassinates “influential commoners,” he seeks the aid of Naoe and Yasuke. Completing the quest will add Rufino as an Ally who can assist on missions. A “Critical Role Weapon Pack” is also available in the store, containing two weapons for each character.
The other big addition is Nightmare Difficulty, which makes enemies “smart, faster, and more aggressive.” They’ll detect you far more easily, deal more damage and only become vulnerable from abilities. If that wasn’t enough, parrying now requires perfect timing. Mess up even slightly, and damage is only partially blocked. Naoe also generates noise while crouching and can be spotted in the shadows if moving.
Rations, shinobi tools and Adrenaline are also rarer, so you’ll need to be more careful about using them. Even for those who don’t jump into Nightmare difficulty, the game has become more challenging courtesy of the Open World Alarm, where causing chaos anywhere in the world sees your character pursued by Guardians.
As for quality of life changes, you can toggle headgear in cutscenes (though depending on the situation, it won’t always apply). VFX toggles also allow for hiding loot on dead bodies, enemy attack indicators, and even your last known position. There are also three camera presets for your mount.
