Saber Interactive has also revealed details about how the points system will work, and how players can get better equipment in the mode.
Developer Saber Interactive has revealed more details about the upcoming major update for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, which will bring with it the new Siege mode. Expanding on a trailer that was released during the Skulls Festival of Video Games, the studio has revealed that, among other things, player progression in Siege mode will be shared with progression from Operations.
In Siege Mode, up to three players will get points for completing waves by killing every enemy that spawns. It is worth noting, however, that the points earned in each wave are shared between the three players; if a wave is to reward the group with 600 points, each player will end up with 200 points. These points can be spent at Requisition Terminals to buy new equipment, as well as reinforcements, including Cadians and Marines.
Every five waves, players will get to change sectors through an elevator. Completing each sector will give players even greater rewards, including more requisition points and armoury data that can be used to upgrade weapons.
Currently, the studio is running tests for the Siege mode through a public test server available in the game’s beta branch. When it comes out on June 26, Seige mode will be available to all players as a free update.
Along with Siege mode, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 will also be getting two new cosmetic packs: the White Scars Chapter Pack, and the Blood Angels Cosmetic Pack.
Back in May, Saber Interactive’s chief creative officer Tim Willits had said that the Siege mode wouldn’t be directly linked to the main campaign in Space Marine 2. While missions in the Operations mode tend to take place parallel to the main campaign’s events, Siege mode will be its own thing entirely.
“Titus and his squad go through this imperial fortress during the first mission to reactivate an antenna and allow an orbital cannon to fire on the Tyranid Hive Ship above,” explained Willits. “Our role in Siege Mode is to defend this fortress, but we do get to visit more of it.”
Willits has also confirmed that, while Siege mode will offer up new gameplay experiences for players, the game mode will not bring with it any new types of enemies. He also noted that every enemy from the rest of the game will be a potential opponent in Siege mode with the exception of the Hive Tyrant from the Decaptitation mission, and the Trygon from Exfiltration. New enemies are slated to be introduced, however.
When it comes to the difficulty scaling of Siege mode, Willits has said that players will get to face “More Minoris and Majoris enemies. More Extremis enemies. And more Terminus bosses as well. Sometimes, several bosses at once, even. It gets very hectic!”
