Players must now complete 20 races to calculate their Safety Rating, and matchmaking should more closely group those with similar SR.
Turn 10 Studios has made great strides over the previous few months to address concerns with Forza Motorsport, like revamping car progression to unlock all parts at level 1. Its next update, which goes live sometime this week, will tweak Safety Ratings and their calculations, starting with bumping the required races to 20 from 10.
As per the developer, “This will put a greater emphasis on your longer-term racing trends. A safe racer with one bad race out of 20 will see little impact on their Safety Rating. A player with a low SR with one clean race out of 20 will see little impact on their rating. It also means that it will take longer for players to raise their SR.
“In addition to the shift to longer-term racing trends, there will be increased weighting placed on collisions to determine your SR. Players with many FRR penalties will see their SR drop faster than before.” Matchmaking is also seeing updates to allow for a “narrower range of Safe Ratings”, leading to fewer instances of S-rated players getting matched with E and D-rated drivers.
The goal is to match “fast, safe drivers” with their ilk and “improve the multiplayer experience for those who want to compete fairly.” The update should also reduce the AI’s unnecessary breaking in several cases, like when attempting to pass, in straights, at the apex of corners, etc.
Turn 10 is looking to add more tracks in the coming months alongside features like a Car Proximity Radar, Endurance Races, support for Logitech TrueForce, Spectate Mode and more. Stay tuned for further details in the meantime.
