Dead Island 2 Crosses 7 Million Players, New Updates Planned

“We’ll share some exciting and long-awaited new game updates, so stay tuned for more Dead Island 2 content,” said Dambuster.

Dambuster Studios launched its second story expansion for Dead Island 2 last month with SoLA, just in time for the action RPG’s first anniversary. In a new blog post, the developer thanked fans for their support and confirmed over seven million players for the title, who have slayed 24 billion zombies.

Interestingly, Dambuster revealed it’s committed to “ongoing support” for the title on all platforms. “In the following months, we’ll share some exciting and long-awaited new game updates, so stay tuned for more Dead Island 2 content to come!”

“Long-awaited” could mean the addition of New Game Plus, allowing players to start a new playthrough while carrying over their upgrades and weapons (potentially discovering new recipes and battling tougher foes). However, it could also see the arrival of the rumored wave-based survival mode “Neighborhood Watch.”

The latter reportedly involved up to three players defending a safe house, completing objectives to earn weapons and traps to help. It lasts up to five in-game days, with the experience becoming “very hectic” as time went on with more challenging objectives. Whether the mode will arrive as a free update or part of paid DLC is unknown, so stay tuned for further updates.

Dead Island 2 is available for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5 and PC.
