Blizzard’s Adam Fletcher says “The full version of the game will be wholly different, so there isn’t a need to use drive space for it.”

Blizzard Entertainment’s Diablo 4 is less than three weeks away. With the Server Slam recently concluding, some may think the client will update to the full game at launch. Adam Fletcher, global community development director for Diablo, confirmed this isn’t the case.

“Just a heads up… you do not need to keep your #Diablo4 Server Slam clients. The full version of the game will be wholly different, so there isn’t a need to use drive space for it.” Fletcher clarified that “the files from Server Slam or Betas won’t be updated, and so this is just a different client.”

While it may seem odd to clarify this, the previous open beta did carry over progress between weekends. It wasn’t the case with the Server Slam, which had several balance changes in addition to revamping dungeons and re-balancing Legendary drops to reflect the day one experience.

Long story short, you must download the entire game when it goes live on June 6th (or June 2nd if you have the Deluxe/Ultimate Edition). Even if that seemed obvious for some people, it’s good to have some clarification for those expecting otherwise.

Diablo 4 will release for Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, PS5 and PC. Launch is only the beginning, as Season 1 arrives in mid to late July with new Legendaries, questlines, characters, and more. There will also be a Battle Pass for players to grind through, with everything cosmetic and not providing a power advantage.
