“The additional time allows us to focus on matching the quality and performance across all platforms,” the developer says.
Cities: Skylines 2 is one of several major titles set to launch in October, though the city building simulator’s launch has been hit with a delay- partially at least. Though the game will still launch towards the end of the month on PC as planned, its console versions won’t be getting a simultaneous release, and will instead launch next year.
Publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Colossal Order said in their announcement that they need the additional time “to reach the quality targets” for Cities: Skylines 2 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S and ensure that they provide “the best experience” to players on consoles.
“The additional time allows us to focus on matching the quality and performance across all platforms,” the announcement message reads.
The game is now targeting a console launch sometime in Spring 2024. Further details on the release date will be shared “soon”.
On PC, meanwhile, the game is still due out on October 24.
