“We are setting things up that will play a role in the future of the Remedy Connected universe,” says writer and creative director Sam Lake.
With Control’s second post-launch expansion, AWE, not only did Remedy Entertainment tie Control and Alan Wake together in concrete ways, it also very directly set up Alan Wake 2 itself. Both franchises are, of course, part of the shared universe known as the Remedy Connected Universe, and Alan Wake 2 is set to continue expanding that connected universe further– to the extent, in fact, that it will set up Control 2’s story, just as Control did with the survival horror title.
Speaking in a recent interview with Wccftech, when asked about the same, writer and creative director Sam Lake confirmed that similar to what Remedy did with Control and its DLC, Alan Wake 2 will continue to set things up for the future of the Remedy Connected Universe, including Control 2, which was officially confirmed to be in development in November last year (and is currently in the proof-of-concept stage).
“Yeah. It’s interesting. We did that in a very clear way with Control, especially the AWE DLC, setting up things,” Lake said when asked if Alan Wake 2 will pave the way for Control 2. “We have publicly announced that we are working on Control 2 and like you saw the FBC (Federal Bureau of Control) does play a key role in the Alan Wake 2 story.
“We are not saying anything definite at this time, but we are setting things up that will play a role in the future of the Remedy Connected Universe.”
Of course, Remedy has also previously confirmed that Alan Wake 2 will receive two paid post-launch expansions, so if the developer chooses to follow the same path as Control, we might see one of those expansions being much more focused on setting things up for Remedy’s future titles than the base game itself.
Alan Wake 2 is due out on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
