The Battle Royale 2.0 shooter releases this year for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC and offers a 60-hour narrative campaign.
Remember Off the Grid, District 9 director Neill Blomkamp’s first video game? During Gamescom 2023, developer Gunzilla Games revealed its gameplay for the first time. Check it out below, courtesy of IGN.
Off the Grid is set on Teardrop Island, and the future is distinctly cyberpunk. Though it’s a battle royale title with support for up to 150 players, it also offers a 60-hour campaign. You have different weapons and cybernetic augmentations, from a grapple to legs for faster sprinting. You can also ride vehicles and mow down other players with its turret.
In a press release, Gunzilla Games CEO Vlad Korolov said, “Off The Grid is evolving the battle royale genre for the industry. With the creative brilliance of Neill Blomkamp and the introduction of innovative gameplay mechanics, we’re offering unprecedented depth that complements the sheer thrill of battle royale competition.”
As you extract loot and unlock new abilities, the story gradually opens up (though in what way remains to be seen). Off the Grid doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s coming “soon” to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC in 2023.
