Nintendo Gamers Can Journey Through the Dark Depths of Citadel Station for the First Time

Nightdive Studios — renowned video game remaster developer and subsidiary of Atari® — proudly announced today that its award-winning sci-fi horror action remake of the classic System Shock is now available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.

Nightdive Studios’ stunningly faithful recreation of the 1994 sci-fi action shooter/immersive sim, System Shock, was released to critical acclaim for PC in 2023 and consoles in 2024. Now, Nintendo gamers can experience the modernized version of this iconic title and own the complete System Shock duology on their Nintendo Switch consoles. Players on Nintendo Switch can expect a range of features, including gyro aiming and various community-requested enhancements. Nintendo Switch 2 players can additionally enjoy Joy-Con 2 mouse support and up to 1440p at 60fps when docked and 1080p at 60fps when handheld.

The System Shock remake combines the gameplay of the original title with HD visuals, updated controls, an overhauled interface, and new sounds and music. A legion of hostile and mutated creatures — created and controlled by the delightfully villainous SHODAN — await players as they make their way through Citadel Station. Players will also encounter traps, puzzles, and secrets as they pursue their escape. A combination of stealth, cunning, and futuristic weaponry will be required to survive.

During development, Nightdive Studios worked closely with many of the original System Shock team members, including Terri Brosius, the original voice of one of gaming’s most iconic villains: SHODAN.

“To achieve Nightdive’s performance and fidelity targets on Nintendo Switch, we retained deferred rendering to keep our dynamic lighting intact, which is a massive challenge on Nintendo Switch hardware,” said Justin Khan, producer at Nightdive Studios. “We are incredibly proud of the results we’ve delivered and hope the fans feel we’ve earned a spot among other ‘Impossible Ports’ like DOOM 2016, Wolfenstein, and The Witcher 3 on the platform. Nintendo Switch 2 owners will also be very pleased and have an even better experience thanks to high resolution and FPS when docked and in handheld mode.”

System Shock Key Features:

  • Unravel the chilling story of SHODAN’s rise and explore the mysteries of Citadel Station, piecing together the truth in this atmospheric sci-fi world

  • Face perilous traps, puzzles, and a legion of hostile and mutated creatures — created and controlled by the villainous SHODAN herself

  • Choose between a male or female-presenting Hacker protagonist

  • Improved gyro aiming and Joy-Con 2 mouse support adds gameplay versatility for both controller and mouse and keyboard players
