Payday 3 Dev Diary Details Setting, Heists, Gameplay Improvements, and More

Starbreeze Studios has released its first developer diary for its upcoming co-op first person shooter to reveal new details on what players can expect.

Payday 3 is finally set to launch later this year after years of development, and developer Starbreeze Studios has started marketing the game in earnest in anticipation of its release. At Xbox Games Showcase earlier this week, we got our first look at gameplay footage in a lengthy trailer, along with confirmation of a September launch, and now, Starbreeze has released a developer diary to reveal more new details.

As revealed previously, Payday 3 will be set in New York City, as opposed to the Washington D.C. setting its predecessor, and will also spell the return of the original game’s main cast. Starbreeze talks about these details in the dev diary, while also detailing some new gameplay mechanics- like being able to take hostages and trading them with cops in order to buy more time for your heists, or having an additional stage between stealth and combat where alerted enemies will first try and look for players before combat can begin properly. Check out the video below for more details.

Payday 3 launches on September 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
