Norse will take place in dark age Norway, and will put players in the shoes of young warrior Gunnar who must set out for vengeance.
Developer Tripwire Interactive has announced that it is expanding into the game publishing business. The new publishing division, dubbed Tripwire Presents, will be kicking things off with a new tactical strategy game titled Norse. Check out the teaser trailer for the game below.
Norse is being developed by indie studio Arctic Hazard, and will use dark age Norway as its primary setting. Players will set off on an epic quest for revenge, taking on the role of a young warrior named Gunnar.
The plot of the game will kick off with Gunnar’s father, Jarl Gripr, is murdered by Steinarr Far-Spear, who then goes on to usurp the high seat. Gunnar must then set forth and get revenge on Far-Spear for this murder. Along the way, players will also have to enlist allies to their cause.
Along the way, players will have to create and upgrade a settlement as they gather allies to build and train a warband. Players will also get to make plenty of choices as they face off against rival clans on their way to get back at Far-Spear.
The writing for Norse is being handled by Sunday Times bestselling author Giles Kristian, who has previously worked on a trilogy of Arthurian tales with the books Lancelot, Camelot, and Arthur.
“From our first conversations with Tripwire Presents about Norse, it was clear that their enthusiasm for the game matched their dedication and expertise in bringing it to gamers worldwide,” said Arctic Hazard CEO and creative director Terje Lundberg in a press release. “We are excited to continue our Viking adventure with the Tripwire team.”
“Working with Arctic Hazard on Norse is an incredible opportunity for Tripwire Presents to bring a bold and immersive Viking experience to players,” said Tripwire Presents publishing director Bryan West. “The game’s strategic depth, intense turn-based combat and rich world-building make it a truly unique and thrilling adventure.”
Norse is under development for PC.
