The Witcher 4 is Bringing Back Geralt, it’s Confirmed

Though Ciri will be the protagonist in the next Witcher title, former protagonist Geralt will return, as will voice actor Doug Cockle.

The Witcher 4 was officially announced at The Game Awards on Thursday, ending the night as one of the event’s biggest announcements by far. With an extensive cinematic reveal trailer, CD Projekt RED revealed that the next instalment in the franchise will star Ciri as its new protagonist- but though we’ve known that Geralt wouldn’t be the protagonist of new Witcher titles any longer for a while now, is he still going to have some role to play?

As it turns out, he will. Doug Cockle, the voice actor of Geralt of Rivia, let slip earlier this year that he would be reprising his role as the old Witcher in the series’ next instalment, even if he wouldn’t be returning as the protagonist this time.

“Geralt will appear in the game, but we don’t want to spoil his role precisely. You’ll have to wait to learn more for now,” a spokesperson for the studio said.

Cockle’s voice as Geralt of Rivia was, of course, heard at the end of The Witcher 4’s recent announcement trailer, but there- we now have official confirmation.

Not much else is known about The Witcher 4 just yet, other than the fact that it’s being built on Unreal Engine 5, and that it will kick off a new trilogy of open world action RPGs. Stay tuned for more information in the coming months. The game entered full production earlier this year.
