Alan Wake 2’s PS5 Pro Update Will Add Ray Traced Reflections in Performance Mode, Fidelity Improvements in Quality Mode

Developer Remedy Entertainment offers fresh details on how it is enhancing its acclaimed horror title for the upcoming PS5 Pro.

Alan Wake 2 was one of the first games to be officially confirmed for the PS5 Pro, and now, developer Remedy Entertainment has revealed fresh details on exactly how its acclaimed survival horror title will be enhanced for the console upon its release next month.

The biggest addition that Remedy is highlighting with Alan Wake 2’s PS5 Pro update is ray tracing. Specifically, when being run on Quality Mode, the game will feature support for ray traced reflections, a first for the title on consoles. It will run at 30 FPS and will be displayed in 4K (upsampled from a 2176 x 1224 render resolution).

On Performance Mode, meanwhile, though the game won’t feature ray tracing, you can expect improved visual fidelity, thanks to the use of PSSR. On top of running at 60 FPS, this mode will see the title being displayed at a 4K resolution (as opposed to 1440p in the base PS5’s Performance Mode), upsampled from “approximately” the same render resolution as Quality Mode (as opposed to Performance Mode’s render resolution being 1536 x 864 on a base PS5).

You can check out the gameplay clips below for a glimpse of what Alan Wake 2 will look and run like on PS5 Pro in both of its graphics modes.

Alan Wake 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. October 22 sees the launch of its second expansion, a free Anniversary Update, and its physical Deluxe Edition. The PS5 Pro, meanwhile, releases on November 7.
