“Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement and promise to create.”
Say what you will about Starfield, but there’s no denying the hype around Bethesda Game Studios’ next big title, The Elder Scrolls 6. In a tweet celebrating 30 years of the franchise, the developer confirmed that it’s “playing early builds” of the eagerly-awaited sequel.
“We are in development on the next chapter – The Elder Scrolls 6. Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement and promise to create.” The studio thanked fans for their support and “couldn’t be more excited” to continue the series and “celebrate the next 30 years.”
Announced at E3 2018 (which was done to calm fans down), The Elder Scrolls 6 entered early development in August 2023. However, former senior VP of global marketing and communications Pete Hines said fans wouldn’t hear about it anytime soon since the focus is on Starfield.
However, former design director Bruce Nesmith confirmed that it would “absolutely” have the same leveling system as The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. There are doubts about its exclusivity – Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said last year that it’s undecided. FTC documents later noted it “may” be exclusive to Xbox Series X/S and PC, but it’s still officially up in the air.
Either way, Spencer believes it could launch by 2028 at the earliest. Get cosy, and stay tuned for updates in the meantime.
