Pacific Drive Video Outlines Gameplay Loop, Upgrades, and Exploration in The Zone

The development team at Ironwood Studios discusses the rogue-lite title’s mechanics and how to survive in the Olympic Exclusion Zone.

Ironwood Studios’ Pacific Drive is unlike other rogue-lite games, with driving, road travel and survival-crafting elements. However, it’s unique, and in a new gameplay video, creative director Alexander Dracott and director Seth Rosen outline its mechanics and a typical run. Check it out below.

Every run begins from the garage, the only haven in the Zone, and players must plan their route. Their car is everything and must be maintained, with parts repaired or replaced. While out in the Olympic Exclusion Zone, you can use various tools like the Impact Hammer to gather Plasma and the Scrapper to earn spare materials.

Of course, you need to beware of the Anomalies – strange phenomena that can do everything from attaching to your car to messing up the controls. Survive a run in the Zone, and the Stable Energy can unlock new recipes in the Fabrication Station.

Pacific Drive is out on February 22nd for PS5 and PC.
