Leaked internal documents suggest Insomniac will also release free Spider-Bots and suits over the coming year, before releasing a GotY Edition in late 2024.
Many of Insomniac Games’ long-term plans have leaked following a recent ransomware hack, including a new IP, X-Men titles, and more. On top of that, however, it seems much more short-term plans for upcoming post-launch content for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have also emerged.
As shared by a user on ResetEra, Insomniac has plans to release three free DLC drops over the course of 2024. The first of these, titled Beetle Infestation, will seemingly release in Q4 of FY 23/24 (i.e. January-March), while the second, Extreme Carnage, seems to be set for the following quarter (April-June). The third DLC, Spider-Verse Anomaly, is set for Holiday 2024, as per the leak.
Another leaked internal slide, meanwhile, claims that Beetle Infestation and Extreme Carnage will both feature an open world mission and boss fight apiece (presumably focused on their respective titular antagonists). Spider-Verse Anomaly, meanwhile, is described as a “Sony Pictures crossover”, and will seemingly bring a mission, visual filter, NPCs, and villains based on the Spider-Verse films.
Beyond that, additional free post-launch updates throughout the year will also seemingly include regular in-game drops of free Spider-Bots to collect and suits to equip, while Insomniac seemingly also plans on releasing a Game of the Year Edition of the game in Holiday 2024, which will include all content released up to that point.
As per the leak, the developer plans to follow up with Marvel’s Venom in 2025, which will, in turn, lead into Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 in 2028.
Recently, Insomniac confirmed that it had delayed the planned New Game Plus update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to early 2024.
From the leaks, it has also emerged that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a budget of $315 million, and has sold over 6.1 million units as of November 12.
