The update will bring new narrative content, a new ending, a new Nightmare difficulty option, and more.
Remedy Entertainment confirmed prior to Alan Wake 2’s launch that the survival horror title would be getting a New Game Plus mode following release, while the developer teased earlier this month that the mode could arrive this month. At The Game Awards, a specific release date for New Game Plus was announced.
Alan Wake 2 won the Best Game Direction category at The Game Awards, and during the acceptance speech by creative director Sam Lake and game director Kyle Rowley, the latter confirmed that New Game Plus will arrive on Monday, December 11.
In a blog post, Remedy Entertainment has also confirmed that New Game Plus will be accompanied by a new Nightmare difficulty option. Meanwhile, the mode will also bring a new ending that will “spark speculation and theories” among fans, new video content and manuscript pages, and “other subtle additions”.
Players will retail all weapons, weapon and character upgrades, and Charms from their completed save in a New Game Plus playthrough. The update will also bring “numerous bug fixes and slight performance optimizations.”
Alan Wake 2 as the joint-most nominated game at The Game Awards this year (alongside Baldur’s Gate 3) with nominations in eight categories, of which it won three- the aforementioned Best Game Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Narrative.
Alan Wake 2 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
