The first free content update adds the Juke Box, Photo Mode and new Challenge Modes. Two more updates are coming later this year.
Sonic Frontiers has been an unprecedented success for Sega, selling over 2.9 million units as of February 2023 and exceeding expectations. While it doesn’t spell the end for 2D Sonic titles, Sonic Team will support the current game with free content, with the first update releasing on March 23rd.
Sega has emailed fans (like Reddit user volo34) that the “Sights, Sounds and Speed Update” would go live on March 23rd. It adds a Juke Box, for fans to listen to any track in-game and a Photo Mode for capturing images of their surroundings. New Challenge Modes are also coming, though very little has been revealed about them.
Update 2 will celebrate Sonic’s birthday and add the Open Zone Challenge and new Koco. Update 3 adds new playable characters, presumably Knuckles, Tails and Amy, and a new story. Stay tuned for more details on their release dates in the coming months.
Sonic Frontiers is available for Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch and Xbox Series X/S.
