The next title in the acclaimed franchise is reportedly a 2.5D side-scrolling Metroidvania spin-off set in Greece with a younger Kratos.
The rumors surrounding Sony’s next God of War title continue, and it seems fans will have to wait until next year to go hands-on. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb reported in a new podcast that it’s been “pushed to 2026.”
Rumors began circulating earlier this year about an alleged new project set in Greece focusing on a younger Kratos and his relationship with his father. It was rumored to be a smaller “side-story project,” later reported as a 2.5D Metroidvania-style action-adventure game.
Sony has yet to officially announce anything related to God of War, and even Santa Monica Studio has been relatively secretive since releasing God of War Ragnarok in 2022 (outside of post-launch updates like Valhalla). The PS5 manufacturer currently has Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and Ghost of Yōtei as its big single-player releases for the current fiscal year.
The future is much less clear, as it noted Marvel’s Wolverine and Intergalactic as upcoming big releases rather than committing to a fiscal year. Time will tell if this changes and whether we’ll hear more about this new God of War, so stay tuned.
