Bloodborne’s Switch 2 Spiritual Successor Could Come to PS5 Yet

FromSoftware owns The Duskbloods intellectual property, opening up the possibility of a PS5 port in the future.

While it’s been confirmed that Nintendo has some kind of investment into the online-based Bloodborne spiritual successor, the Elden Ring developer submitted a trademark for the name in Japan recently. The official website also notes that it owns the copyright.

In fact, while the game will be published by Nintendo under license in North America and Europe, FromSoftware will be self-publishing it in Japan.

This all suggests that a PS5 port could happen at a later date – especially if the game is a success.

The wording in the game’s reveal trailer said: “2026. Available only on Nintendo Switch 2.”

This could be read in a couple of different ways: one way could infer it’s a full-on, lifetime Switch 2 exclusive. The other way perhaps implies that it’ll be only available on Switch 2 in 2026, with other formats to follow.

Nintendo doesn’t own the Bayonetta IP either, but it published the second and third games worldwide, including in Japan.

This situation seems more comparable to, say, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water or Live A Live, both of which were originally published by Nintendo and eventually launched on PS5.

We’ll need to wait and see, of course. It’s unlikely FromSoftware or Nintendo will comment on any long-term exclusivity deals until its relationship expires, so it may be a while before we find out for certain.
