Konami and Bloober Team have showcased new footage that compares a section of the upcoming remake to its counterpart in the original game.

Konami and Bloober Team have insisted time and again in the lead-up to their upcoming remake of Silent Hill 2 that the game is going to be quite faithful to the 2001 original, even if it heavily modernizing the experience from a visual and technical level. With the horror remake set to launch not long from now, they have released another new chunk of footage that illustrates that yet again.

Sitting down with PlayStation, Bloober Team has shown off a specific section of Silent Hill 2‘s upcoming remake while comparing it directly to the 2001 original, offering a clear look at how things have changed, been tweaked, and ultimately still kept largely the same.

The new footage first showcases James and Laura’s encounter in Brookhaven Hospital, where we see that the dialogue has largely been kept intact (including Laura’s famous “fartface” line”), though of course, with the use of performance capture and some slight dialog changes here and there in the remake, the scene does take on a different look, even if it is aesthetically and tonally quite faithful.

Also compared are both games’ version of the boss fight against Flesh Lips that immediately follows the Laura scene. Here, we see that things have been changed a little bit more. For starters, the remake sees James taking on a single Flesh Lip instead of two in the original.

Meanwhile, though the Flesh Lip bears the same design and still attacks James by crashing down from the ceiling, mechanically, the boss fight is quite different now, with players being required to shoot the Flesh Lip down onto the ground to then attack its cage in the first phase of the fight. The second phase also sees the Flesh Lip using the mangled remains of its cage as a weapon to attack James with. Check out the video below for more details.

Silent Hill 2 launches on October 8 for PS5 and PC. Reviews for the title will reportedly begin going live on October 4.
