Exoprimal Features Cosmetic Loot Boxes, Requires In-Game Currency to Unlock Exosuits

Some less-than-encouraging details have emerged on progression and monetization systems in Capcom’s upcoming shooter.

Exoprimal is set to be Capcom’s first new IP in years, but clearly, the company’s putting plenty of weight behind it. From its sci-fi dinosaur-infused premise to its chaotic multiplayer action, there’s plenty about the game that has caught the eye so far- though some newly revealed details are likely to put a fair few people off.

As per a hands-on preview for the upcoming shooter recently published by PC Gamer, Exoprimal will make use of a battle pass – which, of course, was unveiled earlier in the year – as well as loot boxes, with the latter being limited to cosmetic drops. Meanwhile, a preview published on Wccftech has also revealed that some Exosuits in the game will be locked and will require players to pay in-game currency.

The latter preview mentions that Capcom has stressed “many of the game’s features are subject to change”, so there’s presumably a chance that some of these progression and monetization systems end up being changed. Hopefully, that will be the case, because on paper, they do seem rather problematic.

Exoprimal is due out on July 14 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It will also be available via Game Pass at launch.
