Grand Theft Auto 6 Delayed to 2026 to “Avoid Brutal Crunch” – Rumor

“Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time,” reports Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier.

Rockstar finally announced a release date for Grand Theft Auto 6, its next open-world magnum opus, which is good. Unfortunately, it’s delayed past 2025. The developer noted that it’s taking the extra time to “deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” but it reportedly didn’t have much hope of launching this Fall.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said on Bluesky, “Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time. Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch.” He also noted that a slip into 2026 seemed “inevitable for months if not longer.”

What about those delay rumors back in September 2024, which Schreier debunked and called “nonsense?” At the time, six unnamed employees said they had not heard of a delay. However, he noted, “It’s a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive.” And while nothing was announced internally at the time, plans could have changed, at least among management, in the months since.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is launching on May 26th, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. While Rockstar didn’t have an exact date for revealing new details or gameplay, it’s looking forward to sharing more “soon.” Stay tuned for more updates in the meantime.
