Despite being a smaller scale title than Infinite Wealth, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will still feature plenty of chances to explore Honolulu.
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studios, the developer behind the upcoming Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, revealed in a recent Q&A that the game will allow players to explore Honolulu. As caught by The Gamer, the game’s chief producer Hiroyku Sakamoto stated that players will be able to explore all the parts of Honolulu that Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth protagonist Ichiban Kasuga could.
“You can play through all the [Hawaii] locations that you saw in Infinite Wealth,” said Sakamoto. It is, however, worth noting that Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be a smaller scale game than Infinite Wealth. As such, it is likely that the number of side-activities available to the player will be fewer than what we saw in the last game.
While smaller in scale than Infinite Wealth, the game’s director Masayoshi Yokoyama had revealed back in December that Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will still be a bigger game than Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name. Speaking in an interview, Yokoyama had revealed that Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be around 30 percent longer than Gaiden.
This is thanks to the fact that the game will feature quite a few places to visit, and according to Yokoyama, the story will also be that much longer.
Gameplay for Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii was shown off earlier this month, which gave us a look at not only the real-time action combat, but also some of the game’s naval combat. When getting into fights, protagonist Goro Majima will be able to use a number of styles, each with different weapons. This includes pirate-themed weaponry, such as cutlasses and pistols.
When on a ship, however, played will have to manage a crew of over 100 people as they take down enemy ships. Majima’s ship can be equipped with a host of different weapons, ranging from flamethrowers to lasers. Along the way, Majima will also have to bond with his crew in order to get them to perform better in fights.
Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is slated for release on February 21, and will be coming to PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
