miHoYo’s free-to-play, turn-based RPG also had over 30 million pre-registrations before launch, as per Niko Partners’ Daniel Ahmad.
With over 10 million reported pre-registrations, miHoYo’s Honkai: Star Rail was primed for success. However, it’s gone even further beyond, crossing 20 million downloads on its first day of release, as per Daniel Ahmad, Niko Partners director of research and insights.
Ahmad also revealed that there were more than 30 million pre-registrations before release. About 21 million came from China, while the rest of the world made up 10 million, higher than Genshin Impact, miHoYo’s billion-dollar action RPG. It’s also topped the iOS game download charts in more countries than any previous title.
Honkai: Star Rail is available for iOS, Android, and PC via a dedicated launcher and Epic Games Store. It’s a free-to-play, turn-based title focused on the Astral Express as it explores the galaxy, with the main character housing a Stellaron in their body. The developer confirmed PS4 and PS5 versions, but a release window has yet to be announced.
