“There’s an incredible amount of people doing amazing things” with the sequel, per the developer, while promising “more to come.”
Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto 6 has inordinate hype surrounding it, nominated for Most Anticipated Game at The Game Awards 2024 and winning Most Wanted Game at the Golden Joystick Awards. And while there’s a lot we don’t officially know about the title, Rockstar Games teased “absolutely mind-blowing things” upon accepting the award.
“There’s an incredible amount of people doing amazing things on Grand Theft Auto 6, absolutely mind-blowing things, so… It’s an honor to be able to come up here and accept this award on everyone’s behalf. I wish more of us could be here. Thank you very much, everybody, and yeah, more to come.”
Grand Theft Auto 6 is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PS5, with a PC version yet to be announced. It’s set in modern-day Vice City with two new protagonists: Lucia, the first playable female protagonist, and her unnamed partner (leaks from 2022 noted his name as Jason). Based on the first trailer, several real-world locations are apparent, though we know nothing about the story.
As for a release date, Rockstar Games is targeting a launch in Fall 2025, which Take-Two Interactive reaffirmed recently (and promising that it won’t launch too close to Borderlands 4, also due next year). There’s no ETA on when it will reveal more details, so stay tuned for updates in the coming months.
