Part-axe, part-sword, the transforming weapon returns, with Focus Mode allowing for a powerful combo ending in an Elemental Discharge.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest weapon trailer is here, and this time, the Switchaxe (or the “Swaxe”, as some call it) is the focus.

The Switchaxe offers two modes – Axe and Sword, the former offering longer range while the latter’s attacks are faster. There’s also a phial gauge built up with Sword attacks – when it’s full, attacks deal more damage depending on the elemental type. One can also unleash Zero Sum Discharge, a powerful blast.

In Wilds, Focus Mode seemingly allows for a combo ending in a regular Elemental Discharge. Players can also guard and retaliate with a heavy hit. Whether there are more changes to the weapon remains to be seen, but it remains as stylish as ever.

Monster Hunter Wilds launches in 2025 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Three weapon types remain – the Lance, Bow, and Dual Blades. Stay tuned for their gameplay in the lead-up to Gamescom Opening Night Live
