Sonic And Lucas Join Super Smash Bros. Melee With A Fan-Made Update

The only way to play as Sonic and Lucas in Super Smash Bros. Melee.

TeamAkaneia has released a new update for Super Smash Bros. Melee, which allows players to step into the shoes of Sonic and Lucas. Both characters are now available to play almost two decades after the game’s launch on GameCube.

Thanks to a well-known modder group that shared all the files for free on Twitter, fans can download the update to play as Sonic and Lucas (from the Mother series), the two fan-favorite characters that have never officially appeared in Super Smash Bros. Melee so far.The modder team announced the inclusion of Sonic via an old “A new foe has appeared!” screen, with a gameplay trailer giving players an in-depth look at the character design.

TeamAkaneia has revealed all the new content and balance changes coming to the game with its new build, including new stages, trophies, music, and an updated layout for Sonic and Lucas. Players can take the battle to four new stages — Delfino Plaza, Green Hill Zone, Luigi’s Mansion, and Village. They can also expand their trophy collection by completing objectives with Wolf, Diddy Kong, and Charizard.

Super Smash Bros Melee is host to an array of characters from different franchises thanks to the dedicated modder base. Nintendo’s GameCube classic has been modded countless times to change how some game elements work. There are also simple mods that add new characters to the game, which are usually welcomed by players as long as they don’t go against the spirit of the game.
First released for the GameCube in 2001, Super Smash Bros. Melee is still one of the most popular fighting games out there. It features a bunch of characters from Nintendo franchises, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, and Fire Emblem. Players must complete specific tasks to unlock some of these characters, whose appearance has led to a rise in popularity of the series. Most stages in the game have a unique theme relating to one Nintendo franchise or another, some of which can be unlocked by completing challenges.
