With a Metacritic score of 95, it has overtaken The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, which has a score of 92, as the best reviewed DLC ever.
FromSoftware has a knack for attracting widespread critical acclaim for most things that it puts out, and after having hit new heights for itself on that front with 2022’s Elden Ring, appropriately enough, the studio’s massive expansion for the open world action RPG is also attracting similar universal love.
At the time of writing, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree holds a score of 95 on Metacritic, based on 56 reviews (which means the score may fluctuate as more reviews trickle in). The base game, in comparison, has a score of 96 on the website.
Interestingly enough, this makes Shadow of the Erdtree the best reviewed video game DLC of all time. It has overtaken 2016’s The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine, which boasts a Metacritic score of 92.
In our own review of FromSoftware’s stellar expansion, we awarded it a score of 10/10, saying, “Shadow of the Erdtree’s focus on great level design and fantastic boss fights makes it a must play for the fans of the genre.”
Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree launches on June 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
