Final Fantasy 16 Will Come to Xbox Series X/S After PC Release, Producer Suggests

“Once the PC version is released, we’re thinking about hopefully moving to other platforms as well,” says producer Naoki Yoshida.

It’s been close to a year since Final Fantasy 16’s release, but fans of the action RPG continue to have plenty to look forward to. After its second (and likely final) expansion, The Rising Tide, releases next month, Square Enix’s attention will then turn fully to the PC port, which is currently in the final stages of optimization– and it seems that an Xbox Series X/S release will be next up after that.

That’s as per producer Naoki Yoshida, who said in a recent interview with Noisy Pixel that once Final Fantasy 16 has released for PC, the development team will “hopefully” bring the game to “other platforms as well”- which, presumably, is referring to Xbox Series X/S.

“It’s not over in the sense that we have the PC version,” Yoshida said when speaking about the final leg of remaining work on Final Fantasy 16. “Once the PC version is released, we’re thinking about hopefully moving to other platforms as well. However, that’s not really talking about the story; it’s more about moving it onto different platforms. So, there is a sense that while the project is still going, there is not that sense of being sad and having to leave them yet.”

Earlier this year, it was claimed that an Xbox Series X/S port of Final Fantasy 16 was indeed in development.

Final Fantasy 16 is currently available on PS5. The Rising Tide will launch on April 18, and both expansions will be available alongside the base game when it releases for PC. Meanwhile, Square Enix is also set to release a free update for the base game with a number of new features and qualit-of-life improvements.
