Of Capcom’s three recent RE remakes, RE4 is the only one to outsell the original game at launch, though it has seen lower physical launch sales than RE Village and 2019’s RE2.
Resident Evil 4 Remake was, of course, the biggest new game launch last week, and in the latest weekly charts for physical sales in the UK (via GamesIndustry), it has debuted in pole position. It’s the series’ 8th biggest physical launch in the region to date, and outsold the original RE4’s 2005 GameCube launch by 29%. Out of Capcom’s three recent Resident Evil remakes, it is the only one to have outsold the game it’s based on at launch.
That said, its launch sales are lower than several recent Resident Evil games. Though they’re 38% higher than the launch sales of 2020’s Resident Evil 3 remake, they’re also 38% lower than 2019’s Resident Evil 2 remake and 23% lower than Resident Evil Village. It’s worth noting, however, that this data does not include digital sales, which is an area where the game seems to be outperforming all other Resident Evil titles.
Interestingly, Resident Evil 4’s physical UK launch is also 250% bigger than that of fellow survival horror remake Dead Space, which launched in January. 73% of these sales came on the PS5, 13% on the PS4, and 14% on the Xbox Series X.
Meanwhile, WWE 2K23, which debuted on top of the charts last week, has fallen to fourth place. You can check out the full top 10 for the week ending March 25 below.
