Meanwhile, the team will also continue to put out new content for Final Fantasy 14, including Dawntrail, its next expansion.
As the team that handles Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix’s Creative Business Unit 3 (or CBU 3) has a special place in the hearts of Final Fantasy fans, and in 2023, the studio also released its first mainline single player Final Fantasy game with Final Fantasy 16. Looking ahead though, what does the future have in store for the team? Apparently, it could be something entirely new.
Speaking recently with 4Gamer about what 2024 has in store for CBU 3, Final Fantasy 14 and 16 producer Naoki Yoshida said that the development team will “embark on new challenges” this year, which could potentially point to a project unrelated to Final Fantasy– and if nothing else, at the very least, a new game.
“In 2024, Final Fantasy 14 will celebrate its 10th anniversary, bringing new developments, and at the same time, Creative Business United 3 will embark on new challenges. Please pay attention and look forward to it!”
Final Fantasy 14 will, of course, continue to get new content this year as well, with its next expansion, Dawntrail, set for release in the Summer.
Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 16 is also set to receive its second expansion, The Rising Tide, sometime this year. A PC version of the action RPG is also in development.
Last month, Yoshida revealed that the Final Fantasy 16 development team had disbanded, with the exception of the people working on its DLC, and had moved on to new projects.
