Gran Turismo 7’s Active User Count Was Doubled Following Spec 2 Update’s Launch

Producer Kazunori Yamauchi has also said that the racing sim has been “a success” and has more players than PS4’s Gran Turismo Sport.

Gran Turismo 7 has kept up a healthy cadence of post-launch updates since its launch in March 2022, and one of its most significant updates arrived last month with Spec 2, which added new cars, a new track, new GT Cafe Menus, a new opening cinematic, and more. And in the wake of the update’s launch, the racing sim saw a significant uptick in player numbers.

Speaking recently with Overtake, producer Kazunori Yamauchi revealed that after the launch of the Spec 2 update, Gran Turismo 7 saw its active user count being doubled. “We just released the Spec II update and the number of active users jumped up to double what it was before that,” he said.

Yamauchi also revealed that Gran Turismo 7 has “more users” than the PS4 title Gran Turismo Sport. “[Gran Turismo 7] has been a success and we have more users.”

It’s unclear whether Yamauchi was comparing the two games’ active user counts or their lifetime player totals. Since GT7’s launch in March last year, Sony hasn’t provided any updates on how many copies it has sold or how many players it has attracted. In 2021, meanwhile, it was announced that Gran Turismo Sport had surpassed 9.5 million players. The PS4 title will be ending online services on January 31.

Gran Turismo 7 is available on PS5 and PS4.
