Sales for Insomniac Games’ acclaimed superhero title were about five percent higher than previous record holder Hogwarts Legacy.
Gfk’s top ten best-selling physical charts for the week ending October 21st are now available. As reported recently, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 debuted on top, and even with sales down significantly from the first game, it’s the fourth biggest physical launch in the UK this year.
However, as reported by Games Industry, it’s the biggest physical PS5 launch in the region this year, with sales up nearly five percent over Hogwarts Legacy on PS5. Launch sales are roughly three percent lower than God of War Ragnarok, though the latter had more days on sale than Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.
Boxed sales for the sequel are 38 percent lower than the first game, launched in 2018 for PS4, but 41 percent higher than Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, available in 2020 for PS4 and PS5. With how strong the digital sales market is, we’ll need more details to truly gauge the game’s success relative to its predecessors in the UK.
When looking at it worldwide, the sequel is a hit, selling over 2.5 million copies in just 24 hours and becoming PlayStation’s fastest-selling first-party title over God of War Ragnarok.
