Konami confirms that the performance and resolution of both titles will match the HD Collection, though they run at 30 FPS on Nintendo Switch.
Various hands-on impressions and previews for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 have gone live, and for those expecting visual improvements, there’s some bad news. Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 run at 720p resolution, just like in the HD Collection, confirmed Nintendo Life, who spoke to a Konami representative and followed up with the publisher afterwards.
Regarding performance on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and the recently-announced PS4 version, the publisher stated, “We used the HD Collection versions of both MGS2 and MGS3 for porting – so the resolution (720p) and performance will match that of the 2012 HD Collection.” Though the HD Collection targets 60 FPS, both titles run in 30 frames per second on Nintendo Switch.
Even the menus for both titles have “©2012 Konami” on them, not to mention the “HD Edition” naming. It’s odd, but the publisher doesn’t have the best reputation with HD collections (see: Silent Hill HD Collection).
Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 releases on October 24th. Another volume is reportedly in the works, which includes Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid 5 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
