The minigame was described in a recent rating for the game by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority.
Gleefully over-the-top violence has been Mortal Kombat’s MO for as long as the series has been around, and given how crucial it’s become to its very identity, every new game in the franchise is expected to up the ante on that front in new ways. Mortal Kombat 1 is, to one’s surprise, looking like an another festival of carnage and viscera in all that we’ve seen of it so far, and it seems that will extend to a rather unique minigame as well.
As reported by Twisted Voxel, the minigame in question was recently described in brief for an age rating handed to Mortal Kombat 1 by Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority. “The player may encounter a mini-game in certain game modes, where a decapitated head may be presented to the player character to destroy, in order to progress,” the rating read.
Minigames revolving around breaking skulls is actually not something the series is unfamiliar with, as fans of 2011’s Mortal Kombat will remember, though it remains to be seen whether Mortal Kombat 1’s head-destroying minigame will take a similar form, or what modes it will be available in.
Mortal Kombat 1 launches on September 19 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
