Overwatch 2 Won’t Get More Story Missions Immediately Following Season 6

Blizzard is putting story missions on the backburner as it looks to give itself “enough time to make changes or add features” to the game.

With the upcoming launch of Overwatch 2 Season 6, which will bring with it Story Missions as well as a co-op Event Mission, executive producer of the game Jared Neuss has stated that it will be a while before we see more PvE content added to the game.

Speaking during a livestream, Neuss stated that more Story Missions wouldn’t be coming to Overwatch 2 in the seasons immediately following Season 6. According to Neuss, this decision largely comes down to the time developing Story Missions takes, and the studio’s desire to release content and bring new features to Overwatch 2.

“Don’t expect the next round [of story missions] in the next season and the season after that, or anything like that,” said Neuss, as caught by GamesRadar. “It is very much like trying to find that balance between getting [story missions] in front of players quickly because we love story stuff, and giving ourselves enough time to make changes or add features.”

The Story Missions were announced back in June in light of Blizzard’s controversial decision to cancel Overwatch 2‘s PvE-focused Hero Mode. The upcoming Story Missions will take place in Rio de Janeiro, Gothenburg, and Toronto. The upcoming Invasion Story Missions will not be free, and players will need to pay at least $15 to access them.
