Microsoft revealed the first official teaser of the next-generation console called “Project Helix” with PC game support.
Microsoft’s gaming division recently experienced a big management shakeup, with Phil Spencer leaving the company and Asha Sharma continuing where he left off. Only several days later, the new gaming boss of Microsoft published the first teaser of the next-gen Xbox, the successor to the current Xbox Series X|S consoles. Like with the previous two generations, Microsoft starts with codenames, and the codename for the next Xbox is “Project Helix.”
Asha announced Project Helix in her profile on X (the official Xbox account also published the teaser), which also revealed a key detail of the next Xbox console: PC game support. Here is what Asha Sharma said:
For now, exact details about the next-gen Xbox remain unknown. Microsoft has yet to share its specs and additional details. It appears that Microsoft is not quite ready to reveal more details about specs and compatibility details, as Asha said that the company will speak to partners and studios at the upcoming Game Developer Conference (GDC).
Rumors about Microsoft changing the Xbox paradigm and turning its console into a PC have been circulating for quite a while, and Microsoft’s partnership with ASUS on ROG Xbox Ally also outlines the company’s new strategy. The Xbox Series X|S successor could be pretty much a desktop computer with a custom Xbox experience that Microsoft is currently busy polishing on Windows 11. It is too early to say what the next Xbox will be, but with the seal now being broken by Microsoft, expect the company to share more details in the near future.
