The roughly 51 seconds of new gameplay also showcases Albion’s various environments, from immaculate cities to vibrant forests.
Playground Games’ Fable is officially delayed to 2026 after previously being announced for this year. However, some new pre-alpha footage debuted on the Official Xbox Podcast with Xbox Game Studios head Craig Duncan. Check it out below.
Though it’s less than a minute, it showcases casual walking through Albion’s forests, followed by horse riding. The environments look stunning, but the combat is perhaps the most intriguing aspect. It is very Witcher 3-esque, as rumors noted before, but less twirling and more grounded. There’s even some sharp parrying showcased.
The player uses a sword and a two-handed hammer while throwing a fireball. A werewolf-esque creature is visible, which is probably the boss battle Duncan (who called the combat “amazing”) is alluding to. There’s even a humorous bit where a bear trap is set, and a frying pan of sausages is casually placed on top as bait. And of course, the player can kick chickens if they so desire.
Fable is in development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. It’s also allegedly coming to PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
