It also saw increased year-on-year sales on PlayStation and Steam, and set a record for adding new Game Pass subscribers on the day of its release.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launched last week, and unsurprisingly, the first-person shooter has got off to a blinding start. During Microsoft’s recent quarterly earnings call, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that Black Ops 6 has enjoyed the largest ever launch for a Call of Duty game to date.
Nadella did not go into the specific metrics for the game’s launch performance, but did confirm that upon release, its PlayStation and Steam sales were 60 percent higher than they were for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 upon its launch last year. Meanwhile, Black Ops 6 also set a record for new Game Pass subscribers brought in on the day of its release.
“Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the biggest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players as well as Game Pass subscriber adds on launch day,” Nadella said (via VGC). “And unit sales on PlayStation and Steam were also up over 60% year-over-year. This speaks to our strategy of meeting gamers where they are by enabling them to play more games across the screens they spend their time on.”
New maps and modes are set to arrive for Black Ops 6 on November 1, while later that month, Season 01 will also be going live for the shooter and for Call of Duty: Warzone.
In our review of the game, we gave it a score of 7/10, saying, “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is a mostly enjoyable experience with a fun Campaign and Zombies maps, though multiplayer needs more work. It may not reinvent the wheel or rise to the series’ greatest heights, but after last year, it’s a massive improvement.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
