Samurai Shodown Gets Rollback Netcode on PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Epic Games Store

Multiplayer in Samurai Shodown now has rollback netcode on most platforms, with only Xbox One and Nintendo Switch falling behind.

Developer and publisher SNK has announced that Samurai Shodown now has rollback netcode on PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and the Epic Games Store version of the PC release. This is a major improvement to how the game’s multiplayer works, since rather than slowing the gameplay down because of lag in a delay-based system, rollback netcode instead keeps the game’s action flowing with built-in predictive compensation for high latency.

Rollback netcode for Samurai Shodown had been in the works for quite some time, with the PC version of the game getting a beta to test the netcode out in 2023. While the Steam version of Samurai Shodown has been running on rollback netcode since last year, some of the console versions of the game, as well as the Epic Games Store version on PC, are now finally at parity with that same version.

It is worth noting that the Nintendo Switch and Xbox One versions of the game still don’t have rollback netcode, and SNK has not revealed whether these platforms will be getting the rollback netcode update at all.

Samurai Shodown is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Now would be a decent time to check the game out since the release of rollback netcode on most platforms will likely help boost the game’s player base.
