While Square Enix has, for the most part. been faithful in its remake of Final Fantasy 7 for both Remake and Rebirth, the studio still managed to bring new content into both games in the form of missions, locations and even characters. It looks like the devs have something big planned for these new characters in the next game.
(Note: To be considerate, we will not go into spoiler territory in this article, and we advice people not to ruin the game’s story in the comments as well).
In an interview with Japanese publication Frontline Japan, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth (and Remake) devs Iwaki Hiroaki (scenario), Nojima Kazushige (story and scenario), and Toriyama Motomu (co-director) shared a bit about the game’s future and next chapter. While the devs didn’t go into specifics when it comes story, they did confirm that it’ll be “curtain call” for some of the newly introduced characters.
According to Iwaki, the next game (still-untitled), will be the “curtain call” for characters newly introduced in Remake and Rebirth, and the studio said they want to make a story fitting of that, and hopes that players will look forrward not only for the main story, but also for the side stories as well. The devs refrained to share whether this statement meant that these characters’ fates will end in a bad or good way, so we’ll have to wait and see it ourselves once the third game is released, which is said to be sometime in 2027.
If you’ve yet to play Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, we suggest you amend that now regardless if you’ve played the original FF7 game on the PS1 or not. It’s so impressive that it snagged a perfect 10/10 score from us when it was released.
Now, while we were impressed with the game and thinks it’s a must-play, we still think there are a few things Square Enix could have done better, which we discuss in-depth here.
