The classic RTS series Homeworld is getting a VR-based spin-off that tells a completely new story.
FarBridge and Gearbox Entertainment have announced a new spin-off title set in the sci-fi setting of Homeworld. The game, titled Homeworld: Vast Reaches, is a new story in the saga, and is a VR game coming to Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3 headsets later in 2024. Check out the trailer below.
Much like in the classic strategy titles, players in Homeworld: Vast Reaches will take on the role of a human commander controlling a fleet of spaceships. The game will have an emphasis on 3D space in its massive-scale battles set in deep space.
Owing to the fact that it is a VR title, Homeworld: Vast Reaches will allow players to have fine controls over the positioning and tactics of their space fleets. The game also allows players the ability to scale the battles up or down, be it the size of their entire room, or a smaller scale battle on their tabletop.
In the mean time, the next mainline title in the franchise, Homeworld 3, is still under development. The game has seen numerous delays, and is now slated for release on May 13 for PC.
