The movie, described as “an R-rated love letter to the horror genre”, will be directed by David F. Sandberg of Shazam! fame.
With the likes of Uncharted, The Last of Us, Gran Turismo, and Twisted Metal, Sony’s efforts to adapt first party PlayStation games for film and TV have expanded significantly in the last couple of years, and the company isn’t showing any signs of slowing down. In fact, another acclaimed PlayStation game has joined the list of properties that have adaptations in the works.
As reported by THR, Sony has announced that an Until Dawn movie is in the works, and is being produced by PlayStation Productions and Screen Gems, which is also owned by Sony. The movie will be directed by David F. Sandberg, who, of course, has experience with directing horror Hollywood flicks in the form of Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation, following which he also directed DC’s Shazam! and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
The Until Dawn film is written by Blair Butler (Polaroid, The Invitation), while Gary Dauberman (Annabelle, It, The Nun, Salem’s Lot) is doing a pass on the script.
Sony currently has film or TV adaptations in the works for a number of PlayStation properties, including God of War, Horizon, Days Gone, Gravity Rush, and Ghost of Tsushima. Second seasons of HBO’s The Last of Us and Peacock’s Twisted Metal are also in development.
