Baldur’s Gate 3 Gets Hotfix 17, Fixing Gale’s Neediness and Other Bugs

Baldur’s Gate 3’s latest update now has Gale no longer quitting the party if you don’t give him a magic item even once.

Larian Studios has released a new hotfix for Baldur’s Gate 3. As is tradition, the hotfixes are typically aimed at solving critical bugs and other problems. The highlight of the latest update is that Gale now won’t leave your party the moment you stop giving him magical items, provided you make it clear that you’ll give him something later.

Thanks to the update, players now have to make it very clear to Gale that he will never get any magical items in order to get him to leave the party. Other fixes as part of the update include improved compression of savegames, which aims to fix issues caused by large savegame files. The update also features smaller fixes, such as Safeguard Shield’s Saving Throw modifier now correctly reflecting on the Character Sheet.

While fixes are coming in for various bugs in Baldur’s Gate 3 at a steady pace, the Xbox Series X/S version of the game is still plagued by a major bug that prevents players from saving several hours of progress. While the studio is working on a fix, a firmware update is slated for release later today for Xbox Series X/S that might hopefully help rectify the issue.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Check out the complete patch notes for the latest hotfix below.

PATCH NOTES:

Performance and Code

  • Fixed black and colourful visual artefacts sometimes appearing for 1 frame on PS5 when switching scenes or opening and closing UI windows.
  • Increased the compression of savegames, which should fix several issues caused by large savegame files.
  • Reduced the size of save files by removing summons that don’t exist in the game anymore.
  • Guarded against crashes caused when certain character resources (Actions, Bonus Actions, Superiority Dice, etc.) were added and later removed by a mod or cheat engine.

Gameplay and Combat

  • In Honour Mode, the aura of Cazador’s Potent Mist Form now properly dissipates after he’s no longer in Mist Form. Sorry!
  • Fixed the camera sometimes zooming in while jumping or casting projectile spells.
  • Fixed the ability to walk through open doors when you click beyond them from far away.
  • Fixed Thieves’ Tools in the camp chest or inventory of a companion who is waiting at camp not being accessible when lockpicking.

UI

  • Safeguard Shield’s Saving Throw modifier is now correctly reflected on the Character Sheet.

Flow and Scripting

  • Gale will no longer permanently leave the party if you don’t offer him any magic items while talking to him – unless you’re abundantly clear that you don’t plan on ever doing so.
  • Fixed characters getting stuck ‘in a story event’, preventing you from controlling them, after getting killed in the fight with Grym.
