The Hunt for the Goldenfish Begins

If you’re like me, chances are you’re trying to finish every quest in Monster Hunter Wilds. While most quests are pretty self-explanatory, with most being hunting a specific monster, a set of side quests involves catching some fish for an NPC named Kanya. She’s located near a small body of water at the main base in Scarlet Forest.

The first quest she gives is fairly straightforward, as the fish required is right in the same fishing spot she’s in. The second quest, though, Seeking the Goldenfish, isn’t as easy. She gives you a hint about the fish liking cold, dark places, but beyond that, you’re left on your own to figure that out.  Luckily, there are a lot of cold and dark caves you probably come across, and while the Goldenfish can be found in multiple spots throughout the world, there is a spot at the Scarlet Forest where you have a pretty good chance of encountering one. The time of day and weather may also matter, and we found the Goldenfish in the morning with Farrow weather.

The zone you’re going to want to go to in Zone 8. There’s a Mining Outcrop you can set a waypoint to so your Seikret guides you.

Once here, you’ll see a waterfall you can go under, revealing a hidden cave. If you follow the path, you’ll eventually come across a body of water you can dive into. Dive in, and you’ll find a new fishing spot once you get back up.

Here, you’ll find the Goldenfish, which is literally a gold-colored fish. While you can capture fish with a net, for us, in order to complete the quest, we had to catch it with the fishing rod. The best bait to use to catch the Goldenfish is the Golden Bughead bait. Once you’ve caught the Goldenfish, return to Kanya and collect your reward!
