Gran Turismo Movie Receives First Official Trailer on May 2nd

The film focuses on driver Jann Mardenborough, who goes from GT Academy competitor to professional racer and launches in August.

If you haven’t had your fill of Gran Turismo 7, especially with all its updates, the Gran Turismo movie is on track for August. The series’ official Twitter confirmed that a new trailer would debut on May 2nd and provide more context on the story. A short clip with some high-octane action and drama is also attached.

Gran Turismo is directed by Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame. It features Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe and David Harbour, with the story focused on Jann Mardenborough, an actual driver. He starts as a player in the GT Academy and works his way up to becoming a professional driver.

He never competed in motorsport until entering the GT Academy. Upon beating 90,000 entrants in 2011, he competed in the Dubai 24 Hour for Nissan and came third. He’s since competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans – LMP2, British GT Championship, Toyota Racing Series and much more.

Overall, it should be interesting to see the movie dramatize his rise.
