Credit where credit’s due: this is undeniably cool, and a great example of game preservation done well.
Hot on the heels of the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered bundle – due out on both PS5 and PS4 from 10th December – Sony’s confirmed two other titles from the franchise will be emulated on its contemporary consoles from next week.
Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, the PS1 original from Silicon Knights, will be made available with PS Plus Premium from 19th November, emulated on modern hardware with quality of life improvements like save states and rewind.
It’ll be joined on the same day by the PS2 game Blood Omen 2, which launched a year after Soul Reaver 2. This game actually plots the events between the original Blood Omen and Soul Reaver, but it takes place in an alternate timeline.
Between the remaster and these emulated games, you’ll have access to the entire Legacy of Kain series on PS5 and PS4, aside from the 2003 title Defiance.
It’s pretty huge to have all of these games re-released on modern hardware, and it’s one of our favourite things about the current generation. Long may this continue.
