Mojang has quietly released the PS5 version of Minecraft, its ever-popular sandbox game. The native, current-gen port launched yesterday, 22nd October 2024, and is now available for purchase.
We’ve known a PS5 version of the game was coming since June of this year, when Mojang announced a preview release to get player feedback and find bugs. While things have been pretty quiet, save for a small update last month, it’s now on PS Store alongside the PS4 version.
Speaking of, if you own the last-gen version of Minecraft, you can upgrade to the PS5 rendition free of charge.
For those just embarking on their blocky journey, Minecraft is a sandbox survival game in which you can build practically anything you like by mining the procedurally generated land for resources. Developer Mojang has recently spoken about a more regular release schedule for updates and new content, but there’s no shortage of DLC to dive into as well; crossovers with other games like Tetris and Sonic the Hedgehog are worth exploring.
Will you be continuing your crafty adventures in Minecraft on PS5?
